Civil Engineering Design Engineer II Job Description

Sherwood is looking for an accomplished Design Engineer who is competent in Civil 3D and CAD and has experience implementing Engineering design packages through Design Development and Construction Drawings.  This person should have the ability to think independently, manage assignments and manage teams of people responsible for the delivery of drawing packages.  This person will need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment, where you may be responsible for multiple parallel assignments.  This person must be organized and able to manage multiple assignment effectively and work across offices (Sherwood has offices in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco). This assignment may involve working on international projects. Essential Engineering Skills and Functions:
  • Work closely with internal project team in the development of Construction Documents for site development
  • Perform site grading analysis and earthwork calculations
  • Perform roadway design
  • Perform drainage design, calculations, and reports
  • Perform utility layout and sizing
  • Ability to coordinate drawings and design with outside consultants not on a 3d platform
  • Development of construction plan sets and providing redlines for drafters
  • Ensure engineering designs are in compliance with current applicable state & local regulations
  • Develop project specifications in CSI format
  • Work with multiple site base files oriented in different coordinate frames and varying units
  • Read, understand, and design topographic data sets
  • Work on projects at an independent level with little to no supervision
  • Develop and implement innovative design techniques to enhance productivity
  • Lead other junior engineers in the development of project deliverables
  • Follow company QA/QC protocols working with CAD management team
  • Deliver project assignments working with additional staff
  • Attend client meetings and project site visits
  • Write technical reports
  • Translate engineering concepts into illustrations, diagrams, drawings, and visual aids
  • Development of planning studies and exhibits
  • Assign tasks to and coordinate with technicians or administrative staff

 
Computer Skills:
  • Proficient in Hydro CAD, Storm CAD and SWWM (or similar) modeling
  • Proficient in CAD
  • Working knowledge of Windows, MS Office, Google Apps
  • Knowledge of GIS
  • Knowledge of other Civil programs preferred (LDT, Flowmasters etc.)
 
Job Qualifications:
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, interpret and collect data documents
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive company and client information
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Works well and communicates effectively with others
  • Maintains accurate and complete records
  • Works independently under general supervision, uses initiative and good business judgment
  • Ability to plan, organizes, and prioritize, multi-task and use time effectively
  • Ability to read and interpret written information, and follow instructions
  • Ability to perform in a high pressure, quick and dynamic environment
 
Skills, Education and Experience:
  • 4 - 10 years of industry experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
  • Proficient in assembling and collating plan set packages
  • Construction Documentation experience on Commercial, Institutional, and Residential projects
  • EIT required
  • LEED Certification and/or ENVISION or similar preferred
