Sherwood Design Engineers is a civil engineering consulting practice committed to integrating ecology and climate resilience into infrastructure using innovative design. We partner with top design teams from around the country working at the building, neighborhood, and city scale. We bring specialized leadership in innovative site engineering, including watershed management, sustainable water and stormwater systems, and urban ecological systems.
Founded in 2002, our projects include the Memorial Park Master Plan and Phase 1 Design in Houston, a new 33 acre urban park in Oklahoma City, the Harris County Precinct 4 Service Center, and the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan.

Civil Design Engineer I
We have an immediate need for a non-exempt, full-time site Civil Engineer I to work in our Houston office. Only Civil Engineers (No Mechanical, Geotechnical, Environmental, Chemical or Structural) should apply. 

Essential Functions:
  • Assist senior staff in grading design
  • Assist senior staff in drainage design, calculations, and reports
  • Assist senior staff in utility layout
  • Develop planning study exhibits
  • Develop construction plan sets using AutoCAD tools
Job Qualifications:
  • Reliable attendance
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collect, read, and interpret data documents
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive company and client information
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Works well and communicates effectively with others
  • Maintains accurate and complete records
  • Works independently under supervision and shows initiative
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and use time effectively
  • Ability to read and interpret written information and follow instructions
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic environment
  • Willingness to work with multiple staff and be a part of multiple teams
Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
  • Engineer in Training
  • 1-4 years of experience
Computer Skills
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficient with Windows and Microsoft Office programs
  • Knowledge of ARC-GIS preferred
Work Environment:
  • Open office-noise level in the work space is generally moderate
Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools or controls, reach with hands or arms.
  • See details of objects that are more/less than a few feet away
  • Speak clearly so listeners can understand
